What is a domain name? Print

  • 51

A site name or domain name is the address of your website that people type in the browser URL bar to visit your website. The actual address for your website is lots of numbers and dots. For example, the domain name "google.com" points to the IP address "216.58.216.164". Generally, it is easier to remember a name rather than a long string of numbers. Each domain name on the Internet corresponds to such numbers.

You use a domain name to create an identity on the World Wide Web.  For example, in the URL https://domainresellerguru.com/members/knowledgebase.php, the domain name is domainresellerguru.com.
